Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán
Comhairle Ceantar na n-Oileán was created as a democratic organization, elected by the people of the area in August 2000, to promote every aspect of local development. 80% of the population came out to cast their vote on the day, and 15 members were elected to the committee.

With grant aid secured from Údarás na Gaeltachta, a manager was employed part time. In March 2006, Padraic Ó Biadha became the Manager of Comhairle Ceantar na n-Oileán. Maureen Reaney is the Office Administrator, & Elizabeth Loftus is employed as Co-ordinator of Cholaiste Gharmna.
Aims of the Committee
- The main aims of the committee are:
- Promote economical social & cultural needs, & recognise the basic needs of the area. Recognise what's necessary to improve the standard of living in the area.
- Partnership with the local people during the process of development at every level.
- Recognise employment, social venues, pastime venues, public services, heritage & infrastructure; establish planning to develop these ideas.
- Promote different groups in the community, the young, the old, women & the unemployed.
- Resource people to save & further develop the natural resources of the area.
- Mould a partnership from the start to co-operate to get the development up & running.
- To conserve the area surrounding the Islands.
- To help & advise the local committee's in the area.
- Co-operate with the private sector to help them further promote the community.
- Co-ordination & order to make sure the lines of communication remain open between the individual committee's.
